4 ways to read Epub ebook on Kindle Fire

Q: How can I read .ePub files on my kindle?
is there something that I could download onto my kindle fire that would allow me to download and read .ePub format books.

What is the Epub format?
EPub is a free and open e-book standard. Here’s an interesting fact you may not know; EPub files are very much like web pages and can actually be edited with a web page editor. Here’s the full details from Wikipedia.

Why EPub?
If you don’t have an existing EPub book collection is there any reason to think about EPubs? There might be.
As a free open source format it will be used by many independent publishers that won’t be on the Amazon site. Google Books has quite a few available EPub books. Depending on where you source your books you may find cheaper or free books in the EPub format that you want to add to your collection. Also, if you happen to be using different e-Readers throughout your home or business then EPub is a publishing standard.

The next we will introduce four solutions to open epubs on a Kindle Fire.

Nook – With this app you can essentially turn the Kindle Fire into a Nook Tablet. You can sideload other ePub ebooks into the Nook app too. You just have to place them in the Nook’s My Documents folder. The only negative is the covers don’t show up in the library.

FBReader – This is a good ebook app for DRM-free ePubs as well as FB2. They have a text-to-speech plugin for Android too. I tried it briefly and it seems to work okay, but FBReader is freezing up sometimes on the Kindle Fire. This app is easy to load ebooks into; just open settings and change the folder directory to wherever your ePub ebooks are located.

Aldiko – This is the ePub app I use the most because it offers ample formatting options and is one of the few Android apps that supports Adobe DRM ebooks. You can even use it to read library ebooks. It also supports PDF files.

Cool Reader – This is a very popluar ePub Android app. It offers plenty of features and supports a lot of formats: epub (non-DRM), fb2, doc, txt, rtf, html, chm, tcr, pdb, prc, mobi (non-DRM), and pml.

Also if you want to read PDF files on iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch, Sony Reader and other e-readers support ePub format, PDF to ePub Converter for Mac is a user friendly Mac application for converting the PDFs to e-reader compatible ePub format(Also it have a windows version for windows user). Simply add your PDF files to the program and then click "Convert" to have them converted! The PDF to ePub Mac Converter supports batch converting, specify page range, keep original, ignore images, ignore hyperlinks and select output ePub format, etc.
